SWISS JAZZ TRIO

The fundamental repertoire consists of original compositions crafted by Alex Ventling and Lucas Johnson and "Standards" from the Great American Songbook, which represent the artistic highlights of popular music sung in the USA since the 1930’s. Giving space and time to rediscover and reinvent a new place is a common goal in the interpretations of these pieces.

Getting to know each other at the Jazzcampus Basel, the three young men soon formed the Swiss Jazz Trio. The three musicians belong to a close friendship which has shown through past projects, being able to adapt their expression to all types of concert stages. The youngest member which expanded the trio last year was the award-winning singer from Lucerne, Carmela Sager, who was elected with the DKSJ Prize 2018 (Guidelines Conference Swiss Jazz Schools).

JazzOpen Magazine about the Swiss Jazz Trio (English translation):

“You get the impression that every musician in this trio can speak through his instrument and the listener will hear something very personal. They have the ability and finesse to transform these well-listened standard pieces into new musical treasures. The audience begins to wonder whether these are really the same pieces that he kept listening to over the years."
